Children’s Film Festival 2011
One of the biggest fundraisers for the Plano Early Lions is the Children’s Film Festival that we put on every year about this time. Last Saturday, several children got to enjoy Shrek 4 and Monsters vs Aliens. Lion Cyndie and I were on hand to greet the children as they arrived. (I was behind the camera, so I didn’t get any photos we me in them)
Among the children was one very special guest, Sim Scott, shown here with his mother.
Sim was in one of the Lions Camp sessions in Kerrville this year. He had a tumor in his brain that affected his balance and eyesight, which was successfully removed last year. He is still recovering from the effects of the tumor and the surgery, but he expects to make a complete recovery. He has given several presentations about his experience to various civic groups, and I hope that I will be able to get him to speak at one of our club meetings soon.
Sim’s brothers, Sef and Zane (the tall one) attended the Festival with Sim.

Live-Blogging From 2011 Officers Installation
At our 2nd meeting in the new location at Homewood Suites at Jupiter and GWB Turnpike, we installed our new slate of officers. Lion PDG Frank Pickens was on hand to do the installation.
The officers for 2011-12 are listed on http://planolions.org/members/ Note that the incoming President, Lion Earl Wagner, is a Charter Member of the club.
We also had the annual awards pins presentation. Due to budget cutbacks, we were not able to give out as many Jack Wiesh fellowships. The poor economy is especially hard on service clubs.
Lion Arthur presented the Lions Minute, on the 1985 National Lions Club Convention, which featured Ronald Reagan as the keynote speaker.
Lion President Tom took on the unpleasant task of termination of some members who have not been present in a long time, and have not indicated that they wish to continue membership. This was so that the incoming President doesn’t have to drop them.
